Clear, easy to use. I tried to study a bit every night on a 40 day hike through southern France. However, given the price particularly,a very serious criticism is that there is no audio in the eBook.

The content is very good and the audio is clean. However, the audio comes out too fast for a beginner trying to hear the words for the first time. But, it is great to learn french language at normal speed.

Although this may be an extensive and erudite history of sexual humor be forewarned: it is a textbook. This massive and well researched tome would be perfect in a classroom setting or for the academic looking more to indulge in esoterica than humor.

i amazed

I picked up the dirty old thumbed copy from a salvalion army op shop for 30 cents. It looked like all the pages were bent but they had been carfully turned over to mark some of the jokes many years before. I started reading. It was not just a collection of jokes but a beautifully researched and systematic approach. It is to jokes what the oxford dictionary is to the language. It suprising the change since it was written as amongst my friends many of the jokes are not well known and clearly others have technological adaptation. the suprising issue is how things have changed culturally since it was written. One wonders if menstral jokes for example are shared within lesbian social groups that would be taboo in other company or if the degree of ethnic jokes that are no longer promulgated in polite company have their early source listed here. If the porice was right I would like copies for my friends

Wonderful book on comparison of Jesus and Muhammad.

Just received this book. The initial chapters I have read so far give a wonderful comparison of Jesus and Muhammad. The insights Steven gives in this book gives the Christian a good understanding of the life of Muhammad and the misunderstandings Muslims have of Christianity. I had the privileged of meeting Steven Masood and his wife when I lived in Florida. Because of his background he has a good understanding of Islam and the Christian faith which is a wonderful thing for those who wish to come to know our Lord. I highly recommend this book and Steven's other writings.

A quick read, yet very enjoyable romance.

I love a good story which is no-nonsense, contemporary, relatable, and has characters who are not afraid of standing on their own two feet. That is exactly what I got with this book. Romance is a genre which is easy to get wrong. Stereotypes abound, and so many storylines are devoid of any story whatsoever. But not this time.
In The First Night, we have Gannon, who loved Kayla since school days, but he needed to become a man he could respect before he could go looking for his love. Kayla, as well, is an independent young woman who has her head screwed on and works hard to make it in life. She has opinions and her own will, and it is wonderful to see she’s not the type of woman who would simply faint at her hero’s feet.
A well-written, very enjoyable contemporary romance with enough heat to keep you warm on a cold winter’s night. Loved it. I’ll certainly be reading more from this author’s list.

Kayla filled her life with work in between college classes on her way to be a history teacher since she came back to her home town. She had no time at the moment for any male relationship. Where had she seen him before? Not use to drinking, Kayla all too soon finds herself too drunk to protect herself from almost being taken advance of by a couple that swings when the gorgeous bartender coms to her rescue. The next morning Kayla finds herself in a strange bed nursing one horrible hangover. She staggers out to the kitchen to delicious smelling pancakes being cooked by the bartender. Whoa! What happen last night? Who was he? Why was there was such an sexual attraction to him? Where did she know him from? Why can't she keep her mind off him?

Awesome! I loved this story. The hot sex and sweet romance left a taste blend of delicious lingering in my imagination. Kayla feels trapped in her hometown. When she finds herself waking up with smoking hot bartender Gannon she’s convinced she’s just a one-night stand for the sexy womanizer. Gannon has a secret—he wasn’t always hot. He also knew Kayla when they were in high school. The shy guy cared about her because she was kind. Now she’s there and he’s not sure how to behave. At first, he pushes her away because he’s so used to doing that, but when he realizes he’s hurt her he finds a way to open up. This is very 1-clickable! Don’t pass the story up!

Heartwrenching, Yet A Must Read

In this fourth book in the Savannah Martin mysteries, Savannah is faced with her own health issues and her conflicting relationship with Rafe Collier. This book is such a profound, emotional venture into Savannah's private life that I found myself so upset for her and at times in tears. Only a good author can do that. And Ms. Bennett is certainly just one good author.

Savannah is also extremely upset with the news that her sister-in-law, Sheila, has been killed, and she is determined to find out who murdered her and left her two beautiful daughters without a mother. And succeeds she does in unmasking the murderer. She also succeeds in finding the heir of Elspeth Caulfield, who is an eleven-year old boy, and a Rafe look-alike. She also becomes involved in helping a young woman who is on trial for killing her son who disappeared two years prior to this trial. Todd is relentlessly prosecutng, and Savannah is concerned that this young woman may be telling the truth that her child was kidnapped, and she did not kill him.

Most important, Savannah comes into her own in this novel, and emerges more independent. She comes to terms with her own emotions and with her relationship with her oh so self-righteous mother. Her mother, of course, will never change. She will always embrace that Old World Southern "charm," which exudes that polite exterior, concealing the bias and prejudices toward anyone who is not of her social strata, especially toward African Americans and biracial individuals such as Rafe Collier. Rafe is not worthy of her daughter, and she can't understand why Savannah has a friendship with him.

"Close to Home" is the best of the Savannah Martin mysteries so far. It tugs at your heart strings.

Stronger than ever, Close to Home is and awesome read.

Emotion packed suspense pushes this forth novel in the Savannah Martin Mystery Series to a an even high level than the previous books in the series. For the most part the story moves away from real estate and more into Savannah's personal life. While Savannah works to track down the boy in the picture who looks a lot like Rafe, from Contract Pending, mystery and tragedy strike even closer to home in this story. Because she has personal ties to both situations, Savannah pushes harder than usual to resolve the mysteries. Bit by bit, the whole family learns about Savannah's relationship with Rafe. While Rafe makes a pivotal visit, he is not available to support Savannah through most of her trying times.

Dix plays an even greater role in this book than the last one. I see definite opportunities for "Tammy's" role to expand so it will be interesting to see what happens there. After the last book, I had wondered if there was a chance for a romance between the detective and Todd because she is a strong enough woman that he would not be able to suffocate her the way Savannah feels she is being suffocated. That possibility still exists but now I am looking for her role to expand in another direction in the long run. I like to see that she is a good person and a good cop.

There are a couple of times that I really want to have a chat with that girl but the fact in that she acts and feels based on her life, not my mine. These are people that I have come to care about; a good author makes the characters real enough for us to care about even if it mean we get irritated with them. J. Bennett make her characters matter.

About the Author
Eric J. Simon is an associate professor of Department of Biology and Health Science at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire. He teaches introductory biology to science majors and nonscience majors, as well as upper-level courses in genetics, microbiology, tropical marine biology, and molecular biology. Dr. Simon received a B.A. in biology and computer science and an M.A. in biology from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Harvard University. His research focuses on innovative ways to use technology to improve teaching and learning in the science classroom, particularly for nonscience majors. He is the coauthor of Campbell Biology: Concepts and Connections, Seventh Edition.

Jane B. Reece has worked in biology publishing since 1978, when she joined the editorial staff of Benjamin Cummings. Her education includes an A.B. in biology from Harvard University (where she was initially a philosophy major), an M.S. in microbiology from Rutgers University, and a Ph.D. in bacteriology from the University of California, Berkeley. At UC Berkeley and later as a postdoctoral fellow in genetics at Stanford University, her research focused on genetic recombination in bacteria. Dr. Reece taught biology at Middlesex County College (New Jersey) and Queensborough Community College (New York). During her twelve years as an editor, she played a major role in a number of successful textbooks. She is the lead author of Campbell Biology, Ninth Edition and Campbell Biology: Concepts & Connections, Seventh Edition.

Jean L. Dickey is a professor of biology at Clemson University. She had no idea that science was interesting until her senior year in high school, when a scheduling problem landed her in advanced biology. Abandoning plans to study English or foreign languages, she enrolled in Kent State University as a biology major. After receiving her B.S. in biology, she went on to earn a Ph.D. in ecology and evolution from Purdue University. Since joining the faculty at Clemson in 1984, Dr. Dickey has specialized in teaching nonscience majors, including a course designed for pre-service elementary teachers and workshops for in-service teachers. She also developed an investigative laboratory curriculum for general biology. Dr. Dickey is the author of Laboratory Investigations for Biology, Second Edition, and is a coauthor of Campbell Biology: Concepts & Connections, Seventh Edition.

Doesn't come with online access code

I bought this book thinking it would come with the required online access code since I thought all new textbooks come with one, but when I opened it turns out it doesn't! So now I have to spend $60 more for the online access code. So just beware when you're buying it.

Great bio textbook

As you might guess, I bought this for a college biology course. I think it is one of the better science textbooks I have come across so far; everything is explained in easy to understand language, there are tons of illustrations and diagrams, and the text even repeats some of the more complex information more than once in a chapter (in case you didn't understand it the first time). It is well organized. Rarely do I read the supplemental "fun fact" type stories in textbooks but the ones in here are very interesting and actually add to the rest of the material.

Kindle version available on PC

Using a kindle for textbooks may seem like a weird choice, but I happened to get a great amount of use out of it. The kindle reader program is available on your home computer, so you're not stuck reading it on a tiny screen or anything. The ability to search the document for keywords, or quickly swap between chapters made my time using it a lot easier.

As for disadvantages, the price is one. Paying $70+ on a digital file seems a little high, even if it is cheaper than most other versions of the book. Secondly, the kindle app is a little touchy when it comes to swapping pages. Often trying to read the text at the bottom of the page resulted in swapping to the next one on accident.
