E. C. Pasour, Jr., is a professor of business and economics at North Carolina State University and the author of Agriculture and the State. He lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. Randall R. Rucker is a professor of agricultural economics at Montana State University. He lives in Bozeman, Montana. Bruce L. Gardner is the former assistant secretary for economics in the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the dean of the college of agriculture at the University of Maryland. He lives in College Park, Maryland.

Helps to simplify complicated issues

With just a basic understanding of economic theory, this book helps to simplify a very complicated issue. Farm policy is never a simple thing to explain but this book does a pretty good job. It's not overly long or technical but at the same time requires some basic understanding of economics. An entry level economics course would be plenty to set a person up to read this with no issues. Plus, my prof is one of the authors so sitting in his class also helps immensely. I gave it 4 stars only because it's pretty outdated by now. We have a new farm bill and I'd imagine we need a whole new book to explain it!

Every American should read this book

I found this book to be easy to understand and interesting to read. Every American should read this, period. While farm subsidies are not as interesting as other profligate government spending programs they are nevertheless an integral part of our problems. All pundits, independents, conservatives, and Leftists should check this out. Highly recommended.
